Support columns were created to the first floor gallery in the central reception. Above the capitals the balcony took on a scagliola frieze and eight white scagliola urns to enhance this feature. Also containing sienna swags set into vertical posts. Completing the spectacular area Hayles and Howe designed, manufactured and installed four decorative plaster apses.
Difficulties arose during the setting out of the columns. Leading to the columns and pilasters having to retain perfectly matching margins in the floor pattern. Therefore this task was not an easy one to overcome. So by applying good techniques in the design and setting out the team managed to achieve the required result.
